Dr. Ala Noori Talabani is a faculty member in the English Department at Komar University of Science and Technolgy. Dr. Talabani was born in Kirkuk on 24 March, 1969. She graduated from Rzgarri High School for girls in Sulaimani in 1989 and from the University of Salahaddin in Hawler with a Bachelor of Arts in English in June 1997. In 1997 she started her professional career with The Kurdistan Regional Government as an Interpreter, Director, General Director for the Kirkuk Governorate, Ministry of Humanitarian Aid and Cooperation, Ministry of Health and Prime Minister Office and Liaison Officer & Coordinator for Displaced Person office and Office of Demining. After her graduation Dr. Talabani had taken various international courses and holds different international certificates in different subjects as: Peace and Conflict Resolution, English Language and Management Skills, Promotion of Gender Equality, Women and Security Executive and Fulbright (Faculty Developing program). In 2001 Dr. Talabani joined the Master program in English Literature as a part time student at Sulaimani University to resume her academic career. Accordingly she achieved her Master’s Degree in 2004 and PhD.in 2009 in English Literature. After the overthrowing of the Saddam Hussain regime in Iraq, Dr. Talabani emerged as one of the Kurdish women activists and held different political and governmental positions as: Chief of Staff for (Preparatory Committee for the Iraqi National Conference), Member of the Iraqi National Assembly, Assistant for Patriotic Union of Kurdistan political party (PUK)/ Central Council Secretary, Second-in-command for the head of (PUK) branch in Kirkuk and Member of Kurdistan Women Union Secretariat (Yekete Jinan). Talabani joined academia in 2010, and started as a volunteer teaching staff in the language college in Sulaimani University, she taught English Novels (Daniel Defoe and Charles Dickens) for two academic years (2006-2007), and (2009-2010) consecutively. In 2011 she joined Komar University of Science and Technology as a Director for Student Affairs and Registration; in 2013 she was promoted to acting vice president of Student Affairs and Registration. In 2014 she joined Chian University/ Sulaimani for one Academic year, as Chairperson of the English department and vice president of Student Affairs and Registration. In July 2015 she was appointed as acting vice president of Student Affairs and Registration at Komar University of Science and Technology.
